Freshman
Alexus Quaadman continued her strong run of post dominance Saturday with her fourth double-double of the season. The freshman went off for 15 points and 10 rebounds. It is her third straight game with double figure rebounds and now has two double-doubles in her last three games. The Falcons had three players in double figures including a game-high 17 from
Holly Hemmeline. It wasn't enough as the Falcons (7-10, 4-7) fell to Texas Woman's 69-64 in an overtime thriller.
Jada Berry got things going early with five of the first seven points for the Falcons. A Hemmeline three and a Quaaman lay-in pushed the Falcons to a 18-9 lead. The Pioneers (7-10, 4-7) though went on a run and cut the Falcon lead down to three. The Falcons responded with a 6-0 run of their own and pushed their lead back to nine which they'd take into the half at 31-22.
The Pioneer offense was working early in the second half and took a one-point lead. From there the teams traded the lead back and forth before the Falcons opened up a small lead heading into the fourth.
Rory Carter knocked down a jumper and Berry hit a three and the Falcons went into the final quarter up 46-40. Another early run in byt the Pioneer offense once again closed the gap. The teams traded the lead four times down the stretch. Hemmeline hit a three with two minutes remaining to take a one-point lead. After the Pioneers retook the lead Quaadman tied the score with a free throw with 28 seconds remaining.
Kristian James was fouled with five second left and sunk a pair of free throws to give the Falcons a 56-54 lead but the Pioneers hit a lay-up as time expired to force overtime. The Pioneers took the lead early in the extra period and continued to make baskets down the stretch to hang on.
Hemmeline finished with 17 points along with five assists and five steals. Berry finished with a season-high 11 points.
The Falcons return home next week as they take on UT Tyler next Thursday with tip-off scheduled for 5:15.
