Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hemmeline Climbs Scoring Leaderboard in Wire to Wire Rout of UTT

Only one more spot to go as Holly Hemmeline climbed into second place all-time among freshman scorers in UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball history,  She finished tonight with a game-high 19 points, giving her 237 for the season.  It was more than enough as the Falcons opened on an 11-0 run and routed UT Tyler 81-63.

It was Jada Berry who got things going early for the Falcons (8-10, 5-7) with a three and a layup as the Falcons stormed to an 11-0 lead.  The Patriots (3-13, 1-11) battled back cutting into the Falcon lead.  They'd trim it down to five, but not before Berry drained another three and Kristian James hit a layup to finish the quarter up 21-11.  The Falcons continued to pour it on with baskets by Hemmeline and Alexus Quaadman to open the second quarter.  The Patriots once again trimmed the lead back to single digits but Hemmeline hit a three to keep the game out of reach.  Quaadman followed with a layup and threes by Hemmeline and Jordan Rogers a 9-2 run to get the lead back to 18.  The teams traded buckets the rest of the half and the Falcons went into the locker room up 44-26.

Berry and Hemmeline hit back to back buckets out of the half to push the lead to 22.  The Falcon offense hit a cold spell, allowing the Patriots to cut the lead down to 14.  Any chance of a comeback was dashed as Kayla Galindo drained a three and put the Falcons up 60-43 heading into the final quarter.  For the third time in the game Berry opened a quarter as the scorer and was followed by a Quaadman layup.  A Berry three pushed the lead to as much as 22 as the Falcons coasted down the stretch for the victory.

Berry had her best game as a Falcon with  career-highs in points with 15, rebounds with six, and tied a career-high six steals. Hemmeline finished with her 19 on 8-of-17 shooting along with four assists.  Rogers added 15 points off the bench on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting.  Quaadman also finished in double figures with 12 and had three blocks.  The Falcons finished the game with 23 assists and five players with at least three.

The Falcons are back in action Saturday as they look to upset No. 3 Texas A&M - Commerce with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
