The freshmen continue to carry UT Permian Basin Women's Basketball with three scoring in double figures Thursday night for the Falcons.
Jordan Rogers led all scorers with 17 points while
Rory Carter and
Holly Hemmeline added in 10 points apiece. It wasn't enough as a late comeback bid by the Falcons (7-9, 4-6) fell 58-51 to Tarleton.
The teams got the action going trading buckets early. Neither team could grab the momentum in the opening 10 minutes with the largest lead being a three-point lead in favor of the Texans (12-4, 6-4). Carter knocked down a three early in the second quarter to give the Falcons a three-point lead of their own, but the Texans retook the lead on a 7-0 run. Both defenses were stout, allowing neither offense to get into a rhythm and the game was low scoring at the half with the Texans leading 24-20.
Threes early in the second half by Carter and Hemmeline tied things up for a moment. The Texans answered with an 11-1 run to start to pull away. Rogers hit a three and a lay-up and sent the Falcons into the final quarter trailing 43-36. The Texans pushed their lead to 11 early in the fourth and led by nine with under six to go. The gritty Falcons never went away. A 6-0 Falcon run pushed it to a three-point game with two minutes to go. That was as close as they'd get as the Falcons had opportunities down the stretch but could not convert them to points.
Rogers had 11 of her points in the second half and finished shooting 7-for-15 and grabbed five rebounds.
Alexus Quaadman was huge down low, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking a pair of shots.
The Falcons head further east as they'll take on Texas Woman's on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 2.
