Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Career-High from Hemmeline Lifts Falcons to Big Time LSC Victory

The Falcon picked up their biggest win of the season, a thrilling 71-63 win over Eastern New Mexico.  The Falcons (7-8, 4-5) had four freshman score in double figures including a new career-high by Holly Hemmeline who finished with 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting.

Hemmeline was hot early as she kept pace with the Greyhounds (10-4, 4-4) almost by herself, scoring nine of the first 11 Falcon points.  Rory Carter knocked down a three and the Falcons went into the second quarter trailing by just a point.  The teams traded points in the second quarter, with the lead changing four times before Jordan Rogers sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the half, tying the game at 31.

The Greyhounds looked to pull away, starting the quarter on a 9-2 run to take the biggest lead on the afternoon.  The Falcons responded with a run including a pair of threes by Carter and Hemmeline to chip away at the deficit and take a five-point lead, forcing a Greyhound timeout.  The Falcons closed the quarter on a 15-5 run to head into the final quarter up 52-48.

Neither team could grasp momentum in the fourth as they traded blows and the game was knotted at 60 with just over four minutes to play.  Hemmeline was huge knocking down her fifth three of the game and Rogers followed with one of her own on the next possession as the shot clock expired.  Another defensive stop and an Alexus Quaadman lay-up pushed the lead to eight with just over a minute to play.  Free throws iced the game for the Falcons.

Along with her 28 points, Hemmeline finished with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.  Carter finished the afternoon with 15 points while Quaadman picked up her third double-double of the year with 10 points and 13 rebounds.  Rogers finished with 13 points off the bench while Jada Berry was the only other Falcon to score with five.

The Falcons shot 7-of-13 from three in the second half to key the victory while holding the Greyhounds to just 4-of-23 shooting from deep for the game.

The Falcons are back in action on the road next week when they head to Stephenville to take on Tarleton Thursday night.
