The victories leave the Falcons with an undefeated record through its three games during the Dr. Steve Aicinena Invitational Presented by MCM Elegante. UTPB has an unblemished record on the year, not dropping a game with a perfect 9-0 set record.

I am extremely pleased how our team finished strong in some close games today. Our team is excited to achieve one of our goals in winning our home tournament title," said UTPB Head Coach Tim Loesch.

"It was great team effort as we used a different lineup in each match. We had a variety of passers Excel in reception and digging today, their hard work work is much appreciated by their teammates. Kiera Granado and Analise Lucio were both masterful with their decision making and setting hittable balls. Several hitters contributed to our success, with Travana Matthews and Aquincia Strambler excelling in both matches."

The Falcons were tested early in the day against Westminster. The Griffens used a four-point rally late in the first game to even the score at 19-19, but the Falcons scored the next four points, the final three on service aces by Isela Murillo, for a 23-19 lead. Aquincia Strambler wrapped up the first set with a pair of winners for the three-point set win.

UTPB continued its strong hitting as a team, out-hitting Westminster .324 to .147 on the afternoon. Stephanie Sanchez had a great game on the attack, leading three players in double-digit kills with a game-high 12 winners. Travanna Matthews and Strambler each added 10 kills while Matthews hit .529 in the first game of the day.

Megan Ashton paced UTPB with 17 digs, while Anaise Lucio added 25 assists.

The Falcons committed just 10 errors in the nightcap while hitting. 317 as a club and holding Texas A&M International to .051 in a runaway victory, including .000 in each of the second and third sets.

The Falcon defense was strong up front in game two, combining for eight total blocks on defense.

Matthews was involved in five blocks in the three-set match and led the Falcons hitting .667 on offense with 11 kills and just one error on 15 attempts.

Strambler added eight kills while hitting .750, and Skyler Friel hit .444 with five winners.

Kiera Granado had a match-best 16 assists, and Sarah Vasquez had a game-high 15 digs for UTPB.

The Falcons are back in action this Sunday, taking on Fort Lewis in non-conference action at the UTPB Gym at 12 p.m.
