Falcons Go Toe to Toe With Division I Opponent Abilene Christian

In a game that came down to the wire, UT Permian Basin went toe to toe with Division I opponent Abilene Christian falling 6-5.  Krisjon Segleski was brilliant out of the bullpen allowing just one run over four innings of work.

"Proud of our guys battling with ACU tonight," said Head Coach Brian Reinke.  "They did a great job playing the game hard and giving us a chance to win.  Saw some tremendous effort out of our bullpen."

The Falcons (12-18) made noise in the top of the first inning but came away empty handed.  Pemron Burrows worked a lead-off walk, but Tylor Frailey's line-drive was snagged to turn a double play.  Skyler Palermo and Peyton Koopman followed with back to back singles.  Then, William Bierlein's hot shot up the middle was snagged for a fielder's choice to end the inning despite four hard hit balls.

In their half of the inning the Wildcats (14-14) would strike for three unearned runs.  The Falcons turned in a perfect relay when Luis Trevino tried to extend a single into a double but was out at second.  In their half of the inning the Falcons would get on the board with a rally of their own.

The rally started after an errant throw allowed Andres Romero to reach.  Alex Wixson followed with a single and another booted ball allowed Andrew Donovan to reach.  Burrows would battle back from a 1-2 count to work an RBI-walk for their first run.  Frailey followed with a sac fly for another run to make it 3-2.  Burrows swiped second to put two runners into scoring position for Palermo.  Palermo singled through the right side scoring two giving the Falcons a 4-3 lead.

The Wildcats would tie the score on a ground ball in their half of the inning to tie the game at four, but the Falcons would answer right back.  Gabriel Melendez reached on a two-base error with one out in the third.  Andres Romero then drove a 2-2 pitch into left center for an RBI-single giving the Falcons another one-run lead.

In the fourth the Wildcats would threaten with runners on the corners, but Segleski made a tremendous play snagging the line drive headed straight for him to end the threat.  Both teams would settle in and trade zeroes until the seventh when the Wildcats executed a double steal of home to tie the score.  The Wildcats would take the lead in the eighth on a single up the middle, finishing the game with a 6-5 final.

Palermo led the offense going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI among the five Falcon hits.  The bullpen combined for 7.1 innings allowing just three runs after the Wildcats scored three unearned to start the game.  Segleski went the longest with his four innings and allowed just three hits.
