Lead-off man
Pemron Burrows extended his streak of reaching base safely to 22 games as the Falcons fell to University of the Southwest 6-4.
Â
The Falcons got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning. Back to back walks to
Tylor Frailey and
Skyler Palermo put a pair on with one out.Â
William Bierlein stroked a single to left to bring in Frailey and give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.Â
Tyler Vlasek worked a walk to load the bases for
Tony Oslovar who brought in a run on a ground ball to first.Â
Andres Romero followed with a two-run single to left field and the Falcons led 4-0.Â
Â
In the second the Mustangs would get on the board. A walk and a single put runners on the corners before a wild pitch and error allowed a pair to score. After trading zeroes the Mustangs would score again on a walk in the fourth to make it 4-3. In the fifth the Mustangs took the lead on an error allowing a pair to score.
Â
The Mustangs had a chance to extend their lead in the seventh when they loaded the bases with only one out. Reliever
Nick Bartley calmly struck out the next two batters to escape the jam. In their half of the eighth the Falcons threatened with runners on the corners and one out, but a double play ended the rally. The Mustangs would add an insurance run in the eighth to go up 6-4.
Â
The Falcons got production out of the top four in the order with six of their seven hits including to each by Burrows and Bierlein. Romero led the squad with a pair of RBI.
Â
It's a quick turnaround for the Falcons as they head to Abilene tomorrow night as they'll face Abilene Christian before returning home to face Texas A&M – Kingsville in Lone Star Conference play.
