Williams Tosses Gem Out of Bullpen at West Texas A&M

Pitching out of the bullpen for the first time all season, Matt Williams tossed 5.1 innings of relief allowing just one run in the opening game of a double header at No. 14 West Texas A&M.  The Falcons would fall in the first game 5-1 before dropping the second 13-2.

The Falcon (14-25) offense looked to jump out to an early lead in the first inning of the first game, loading the bases with one out.  They were unable to push a run across stranding the three runners.  The Buffs (35-8) got on the board first with a four-run first inning.  Williams would come in with two outs and escape with the bases loaded.  The senior held the Buffs to just one hit until the Falcons got on the board in the fifth inning.   Tylor Frailey doubled with two outs and Skyler Palermo followed with a double of his own to right center cutting the deficit to 4-1.  The Buffs would add an insurance run in the sixth for the 5-1 final.

Williams threw 5.1 innings, striking out five and allowing three hits over just 82 pitches.

"Matt did a really good job out of the bullpen," said Head Coach Brian Reinke.  "He has the potential to do that every time out.  Thought he grabbed that role and did a great job."

The Falcons would drop the second game 13-2, scoring on a Peyton Koopman double in the second inning and a double by Pemron Burrows in the fifth.  Alex Wixson and Koopman each had a pair of hits in the effort.  Out of the bullpen Paul McRae struck out two in his one inning of work.

The series finale is tomorrow in Canyon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. before the Falcons return home for their final home series of the season against Cameron.
