Skyler Palermo and
Jonathan Bermudez each had a double and a single in UT Permian Basin's series opener at No. 14 West Texas A&M Thursday night. It wasn't enough as the team fell 8-0.
The Falcons (14-23) battled all night against the number 14 team in the country. The Buffs (33-8) opened the scoring in the second inning before adding another in the third. They would add insurance runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings pushing the lead to 8-0. The Falcons had opportunities in the sixth and seventh innings.
Pemron Burrows started the sixth by getting hit by a pitch and two batters later Palermo singled moving him to third, but starter Joe Corbett escaped the jam. In the seventh
Tyler Vlasek singled and moved to third on Bermudez's double setting the Falcons up but they couldn't push a run across on Corbett who picked up his 10th win of the season.
Alex Wixson added a pinch-hit double as the Falcons had three extra base hits on the night.
Cale Thornton was brilliant out of the bullpen allowing just two hits over two innings and struck out a pair.
These teams square-off in a double header tomorrow evening in the middle of their four-game series.
