After a week off from Lone Star Conference play, UT Permian Basin returned to conference play against Texas A&M - Kingsville falling 11-1.
The Falcons (12-21) came close to escaping trouble in the first inning but a two-out rally by the Javelinas (24-13) gave them a 4-0 lead. Starter
Ivan Thomas then settled inning throwing up zeroes on the board until allowing a run in the fifth. The Falcon offense couldn't figure out Preston Plovanich who didn't allow a runner in scoring position until the seventh.Â
Gabriel Melendez smashed a one-out triple in the seventh into the right center field gap. Two batters later
William Bierlein hit one to almost the exact same spot for an RBI-double getting the Falcons on the board. That's all the Falcons would get for the 11-1 final.
Other than the extra base hits by Melendez and Bierlein,
Skyler Palermo had a hit on the afternoon. In his six innings of work, Thomas allowed just five hits and struck out six.
These teams resume their weekend series tomorrow with a double header with game one slated to begin at 1 p.m.
