Falcons Play 17 Inning, 6 Hour Marathon with Cameron

It took six hours and 17 innings but UT Permian Basin fell in a marathon game to Cameron 7-6.

In the top of the first inning, the Falcons (5-9) would jump out to a 2-0 lead.  After a pair of walks and a fielder's choice, William Bierlein drove in two runs on an error to grab the lead.  After exchanging zeroes, the Falcon offense would strike again in their half of the fifth.  Pemron Burrows would drive in a run with an RBI-double to make it 3-0.  The next batter Tylor Frailey would drive him in with a single of his own.  Tyler Vlasek would push him to third with a single before Bierlein would knock in Frailey with a fielder's choice to go up 5-0.  Tha Aggies (8-10) would strike back with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning, aided by four Falcon walks.

Neither offense would do much until the bottom of the ninth.  Four hits led to two runs and a tied ballgame, sending the game into extra innings.  The Falcons would threaten in the 15th inning, getting runners on the corners with one-out but would be unable to cash in, stranding the pair.  The Aggies would get two on in their half of the inning but would also be unable to push across a run.  In the 17th, Tony Oslovar would open the frame with a walk, then stole second.  A ground out moved him to third and Burrows would be walked putting runners on the corners with one out.  Frailey would drive Oslovar in, giving the Falcons the 6-5 lead with the first run in eight innings.  The lead would not last long as the Aggies would score twice including a bases loaded walk for the winning run and the 6-5 final just after midnight.

Burrows had a night going 2-4 and reaching base four times on a walk and swiping two bases along with an RBI and a double.  Frailey drove two runs on three hits while scoring twice for the Falcons.  In his second start of the season, Matt Williams struck out nine in 4.2 innings.  Cale Thornton threw 2.1 shutout innings, his fifth straight scoreless appearance spanning over nine innings.  Freshman Clay Thompson threw 4.1 hitless innings, allowing just two baserunners.  Krisjon Segleski went 3.2 innings before giving up the winning run.

The teams resume play at 4 p.m. on Saturday in a double header with game two to follow before wrapping up the series on Sunday.
