Alex Rivera threw a seven-inning shutout gem allowing just three hits along the way as UT Permian Basin split a double header with Cameron on Saturday.
Game one started off right for the Falcons (6-10) when
Tylor Frailey, the second batter of the game, launched a solo home run for the early lead. The lead would be short lived as the Aggies (9-11) would strike for six runs in the second inning. The Falcons would chip away with a pair of runs in the third inning including an RBI-double by
Peyton Koopman to cut the lead to three. After the Falcons added a run on a passed ball, the Aggies would score three in the fifth and six in the sixth for the 17-3 final.
After playing 17 innings last night and forced to throw five pitchers in the first half of the double header,
Alex Rivera saved the bullpen with a complete game shutout in dominating fashion. Neither team could get much offense going in the early innings but it would be the Falcons who broke through in the fourth. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases and
Tony Oslovar worked a walk to give the Falcons the 1-0 lead. Rivera kept the Aggie bats quiet until the offense gave him a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.Â
Alex Wixson would lead off the inning with a single and come around to score on an Oslovar double. The next batter,
Jonathan Bermudez drove him in with a single of his own to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. The Aggies would threaten in their half of the inning but would end up stranding two runners. The Falcons would strand a runner at third in the top of the seventh before Rivera would finish the game for the 3-0 final. Â
Koopman led the Falcon offense in the first game with three hits and an RBI. Frailey scored another run in addition to his home run while
Andrew Donovan added a pair of hits. Frailey added two more hits in the second game, while Bermudez and
Skyler Palermo also added a pair of hits. Rivera went all seven innings, striking out eight and allowing just three hits and walking three. Â
The teams wrap-up their series tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Lawton before the Falcons return home for their final series before conference play.
