Bermudez Has Stellar Day at Plate Against Adams State

Jonathan Bermudez broke out going 3-3 with an RBI, but it wasn't enough as UT Permian Basin fell to Adams State 5-2.

The Falcons (5-5) had runners reach first and second in each of the first two innings but were unable to get a run across either time.  Things were scoreless until the third after the Grizzlies (3-11) put together a two-out rally to score the game's first run.

The game would stay that way until the fifth when the Falcons would get on the board.  Bermudez opened the frame with a single to left and would get bunted over to second.  He'd advance to third on a ground ball before Pemron Burrows walked with two-out.  William Bierlein singled to drive him in and tie the score.

The game would remain tied until the seventh when the Grizzlies would score on a ground ball and retake the lead.  They would add three more in their half of the eighth to make it a 5-1 ballgame.

The Falcon offense would not go down quietly.  Dalton Castillo opened the inning with a double over the head of the left fielder.  Gabriel Melendez hit a laser into the left field corner to score Castillo.  Tyler Vlasek would follow with a single of his own advancing Melendez to third.  Bermudez would drive in Melendez on a deep fly ball to center and make it 5-3.  That's all the Falcons would get and the game would end in a 5-3 final.

Bermudez led the offense going 3-3 with a double, RBI and run scored.  Burrows continued over from his three hit game yesterday with a pair of hits while Melendez also added a pair of hits.  Joshua Gonzales started for the Falcons retiring the first eight batters while Cale Thornton threw 2.1 innings in relief allowing just one hit.

The Falcons are back in action later this week when they take on West Texas A&M in a four-game weekend series starting on Friday.
