UT Permian Basin men's and women's tennis had a successful Saturday as both teams braved blustery spring conditions to pick up a pair of victories against Colorado State - Pueblo. The Falcon men picked up a 4-3 victory, while the Falcon women won handily 6-1.
The UTPB women won four of five singles matches. Melissa Ariza won in the third and decisive set 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 at #1 singles.
Maria Briones picked up a #2 singles win at 6-1, 6-1.
Amelie Saint-Dizier won at #3 singles in straight sets at 6-2, 6-3.
Paulina Obreque then took a two-set win at #5 singles 6-2, 6-0. The women's team swept both doubles matches, winning #1 doubles 6-4 by
Jessica Madamba and Ariza, while Saint-Dizier and Madison Hoetling took the #2 doubles match 6-1.
The Falcon men picked up the doubles point early on, winning all three doubles contests.
Jorge Garcia and Fernando Siqueria took #1 doubles 6-2,
Raul Stevens and
Jordan Minjoot won #2 doubles 6-4, and
Marcos Silva and
Juan Diego Ruiz won #3 doubles 7-5.
The doubles win proved important, as UTPB and CSU Pueblo split the singles contest. Stevens won at #2 singles in repeat 7-5, 7-5 sets.
Enrique Sanchez took the win at #4 singles 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, and Diego Ruiz was victorious at #5 singles 6-0, 6-2.
