Pippins-Tryon Continues Hot Scoring at Kingsville

Khali Pippins-Tryon scored 22 points and snagged 11 rebounds but it wasn't enough as UT Permian Basin fell to Texas A&M - Kingsville 73-65.  It was the first double-double of her career as a Falcon and third straight game with at least 20 points.

The Falcons (4-21) started off the scoring with a basket by Kristian James, but would trade points back and forth with the Javelinas (9-15).  Back to back buckets from Sarah Bersang and Pippins-Tryon gave the Falcons a seven point lead, but a late Javelina run tied the game at 18 at the end of a quarter.  The Javelinas would continue their run snatching a seven point lead early in the second quarter.  The Falcons would go on a run of their own cutting the lead to one on a three by Bersang.  After trading points, Pippins-Tryon would sink a pair of free throws and go into the half trailing 34-31.

The Javelinas would start the second half hot stretching the lead to 10 before Juliette Akinwole hit a lay-up, followed by another Bersang three and a basket by Pippins-Tryon to go right back to a three point game.  Later in the quarter Chynna Rivera's three made it a two point game and a few minutes later a lay-up by James gave the Falcons a 45-44 lead.  Free throws by Pippins-Tryon then Teya Morris closed the quarter with the Falcons up 49-47.  The Falcons would push their lead to six after another Rivera three and basket by Pippins-Tryon.  From there the Javelinas would chip away eventually taking the lead.  The teams would trade leads three times before a three by the Javelinas put them up four. From there they would ice the game with free throws for the 73-65 final, with the Falcons going scoreless over the last 3:50.

Pippins-Tryon finished as the games leading scorer with 22 points while Bersang added in 15 and went 3-5 from long range.  She also added in five assists.  James set a career-high with 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.

The Falcons play their final road game of the season Saturday at Angelo State before returning home to wrap-up their season with their final two games.
