Freshmen Duo Combine for 40 Points Against Cameron

Freshman Jordan Rogers scored a career-high 21 points of the bench as fellow freshman Holly Hemmeline dropped 19 points against Lone Star Conference foe Cameron on Saturday.  The Falcons also got 15 points in 17 minutes from Lemia Ntor-Ue but it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell for the first time in LSC play 90-78.

Neither team could grab momentum in the opening quarter.  The Falcons (5-4, 2-1) had the largest lead of the quarter at just four points but it was the Aggies (3-5, 2-0) who closed the quarter strong to end the quarter up three.  A Kristian James three-pointer followed by buckets by Hemmeline and Ntor-Ue put the Falcons back in front for a moment, but the Aggies answered to go back up five.  Rogers knocked down a three to cut the deficit back to two but back to back Aggie threes opened their lead to eight.

Much of the rest of the game was both sides exchanging blows.  The Falcons started the second half by cutting the deficit to three, but the Aggies responded with a three-pointer.  The Falcons got their deficit to within three on five occasions but couldn't get any closer as the Aggies were perfect from the free throw line down the stretch to pull away.

The Falcons won the turnover battle forcing 23 turnovers and only committing 16.  Along with her 19 points, Hemmeline added five assists, four rebounds and four steals.  Yazmin Batch led the team in rebounds with seven off the bench while chipping in five points.

This was the final Falcon home game for 2019.  They hit the road to close out the calendar year next week against Texas A&M – Kingsville on Thursday before taking on Texas A&M International before resuming play in 2020.
