Davion Sutton ran for a touchdown for the third straight week, and freshman wide receiver
Jeremiah Cooley caught his third touchdown in four games Saturday in a 44-13 loss on the road at Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
Cooley got the first points for the Falcons on his second catch in a 61-yard scoring drive. Following a 14-yard rush by Sutton for a first down, Cooley caught a 16-yard reception from
Clayton Roberts for 16 yards down to the Commerce 31. Four plays later, the Falcons converted on fourth and long for a 28-yard touchdown to Cooley with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter.
Sutton found the end zone two possessions later after the offense started near midfield following a 42-yard kick return by
Caleb Forrest. Penalties by the Lions helped extend the drive, and an 18-yard catch by
Kyle McBride took the Falcons inside the Commerce nine yard line. Facing 3rd-and-five, Sutton converted with a five-yard touchdown rush early in the fourth quarter for his third score in as many games.
Sutton led the Falcons with 44 yards on 20 attempts, while Cooley had a team-high 54 yards on three catches.Â
Donta Stuart continued a strong run on defense for the Falcons, leading UTPB with 13 tackles.
Chris Hoad added 12 tackles with a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter for the Falcons.
Jemal Williams led the Lions with a pair of rushing touchdowns and 103 yards on the ground, while Miklo Smalls also threw for a pair of scores and 282 yards on the day.
