Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Freshman Scores 18 in Falcon Season Opener

Freshman Holly Hemmeline started her Falcon career off with a bang, scoring a game-high 18 points to open the season.  Hemmeline caught fire in the second half, scoring all 18 of her points.  It wasn't enough as the Falcons fell to Regis 65-48.

The Falcon offense was slow to get going, heading into the half trailing 37-9, but heated up in the second half.  Hemmeline started the second half with back to back threes breaking a long scoring drought by the Falcons.  The freshman continued to take over offensively, putting back an offensive rebound on the next possession before finishing the quarter with 11 points.  She hit a three followed by a lay-up after a steal for a quick start to the fourth quarter.  The Falcons battled cutting what was once a 31-point deficit down to as few as 17 but there wasn't enough time to dig out of their first half hole.

Hemmeline scored her 18 points on 7-for-17 shooting including four threes.  She also added in a pair of assists and three steals.  Fellow freshman Rory Carter added eight points while junior Kayla Galindo added seven points.  Alexus Quaadman led the team on the boards, racking up seven off the bench along with four points and a block.

The Falcons have a quick turnaround as they take on Colorado - Colorado Springs tomorrow with tip-off scheduled for 6:30 CT.  The Falcons then return home for their home opener on Monday night at 7 against Arlington Baptist.
