Box Score Travana Matthews paced the Falcon attack Saturday night as UT Permian Basin Volleyball picked up its second straight 3-0 sweep of the weekend, defeating St. Mary's 25-22, 25-15, 25-12 at home in Odessa.
Matthews led the offense with nine kills on the night, committing no errors on 16 attempts to hit a team-best .563 on the night.
"Very proud of our team for showing resilience after a couple of tough losses last weekend," said Head Coach Tim Loesch.
"It is great to get a couple of wins on our home court over a pair of good teams, in front of awesome Falcon crowds. Greater than the wins is the fact that we are continuing to grow as a team, in both our skills and fighting spirit.
We had to change our lineup yet again, and had some players expand their roles to help the team.
We are currently missing a number of our starting seven, so having other players elevate their game has been crucial for us to continue to play as a team and not rely on couple of players to carry us.
It would have been easy to make excuses, instead we chose to play hard together and find new ways to win. It is a tribute to these young ladies that they buy into our team concept and will do whatever role is needed to help the team.
We are getting solid contributions from multiple freshman, sophomores, juniors, transfers, as well as our seniors.Â
Hopefully we can continue improving and finish the second half of the season strong!"
UT Permian Basin hit .214 collectively as a team on the night committing 12 errors while recording 33 kills in the three-set match. The Falcons held the Rattlers to .028 hitting as a team, including -0.128 on 13 errors and eight kills in the second set.
UTPB is back in action on the road next weekend, traveling for road matches at Midwestern State and Texas Woman's.
