Aquincia Strambler led the UT Permian Basin offense and setter
Analise Lucio continued her strong play of late as UTPB Volleyball swept St. Edward's 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 Thursday night at home.
Strambler had 10 kills on the night for the Falcons, hitting .304 on the night as UTPB hit .210 collectively as a team.
Isela Murillo had a team-best 11 kills for the Falcons on the night, recording a double-double with 10 digs on the night.
Lucio added five kills for the Falcons on 11 attempts, hitting .455 while recording a season-high 33 assists at setter.
UTPB controlled play most of the night, including a six-point stretch in the first set for a commanding 16-8 lead. St. Edward's rallied to score eight of nine later to pull within 19-17, but the Falcons traded the next eight points and closed the set with a kill from Murillo and a Hilltopper attack error.
The Falcons used another strong early run in set two, scoring four straight and seven of eight points for an early 9-4 lead. After St. Edward's closed within 16-15, UTPB scored four straight on kills by Murillo,
Travana Matthews and Lucio with a block by Matthews and Strambler.
UT Permian Basin broke away in the third set with four straight points off of kills by Murillo and Matthews with a block from Matthews and
Stephanie Sanchez to lead 16-11. The Falcons closed out the win with four straight points, winning on a winner by Strambler for the final point of the night.
UTPB is back home this weekend, facing St. Mary's Saturday night at 6 p.m.
