Miles Washington and
Adam Rivera shot lights out for UT Permian Basin Saturday afternoon on the road at Texas A&M Commerce, but the hometown Lions pulled out an 85-78 win over the Falcons Saturday on the road in Lone Star Conference action in Commerce, Texas.
Rivera led the Falcons with 19 points on 6-9 shooting, hitting four 3-pointers, while Washington was 7-9 from the field to add 18 points on the day as the pair combined to shoot 13-18 from the floor.
UTPB led by as many as five points in the first half when Washington hit consecutive baskets for the Falcons, and they led 39-37 when Washington hit a basket in the paint with 22 seconds remaining.
Comemrce pulled away late in the second half, taking control of a back-and-forth contest with a 14-5 run to lead 76-67 with 3:26 remaining.Â
The Falcons closed within five points two times in the latter stages of the game, the first on a put back by
Demarco Jackson and the second on a 3-pointer by Rivera to close within 83-78 with 17 seconds remaining.
UTPB shot 29-56 (51.8 percent) as a team on the night and out-rebounded Commerce 37-29 on the day, but the Falcons were hurt by committing 21 turnovers to just seven by the Lions.Â
Reggie Reid led Texas A&M Commerce on the day, scoring a game-high 23 points with six 3-pointers.
UTPB is back in action on the road next week, traveling to Silver City, N.M., for a Thursday night game at Western New Mexico.
