Jacob Ledoux and
Miles Washington combined for 25 of UT Permian Basin's 45 points in the second half, and the Falcons were able to turn a 19-point Tarleton State lead into a two-point game in the final seconds, but the Texans made enough free throws down the stretch to defeat UTPB 79-75 Thursday night in Stephenville, Texas.
The Falcons started the game out strong, taking an 11-6 lead early in the contest on a Ledoux 3-pointer at 15:58 of the first half. But the Texans broke away closer to halftime, using a 13-1 at the end of the half to take a 44-30 lead into the break.
Down 60-41 with 12:48 remaining in the game, the Falcons got the lead down to 10 points on a 3-pointer off of an offensive rebound by
Kyree Elder followed by a block that turned into a dunk from Washington with just under six minutes to play.Â
It was a 6-0 run in the game's final minute that did the remainder of the damage. A Ledoux layup with 52 seconds left closed the gap to seven points. Washington made a pair at the line to get the lead to nine, and a layup after a missed TSU free throw from Elder made it a one-possession game with 22 seconds remaining.
Tarleton State made a single free throw on each of its next two possessions, and Ledoux responded with a 3-pointer to cut the advantage to two-points at 77-75.
The Falcon comeback ran out of time when Richie Mitchell made both of his foul shots with four seconds remaining for the 79-75 final.
Ledoux led the Falcons with 21 points in the game. He ended with five 3-pointers and tied for the team lead with five rebounds.Â
Washington scored 10 points after leading UTPB with nine points off the bench in the first half.
In a battle of the top-two scorers in the Lone Star Conference between Ledoux and Josh Hawley, Hawley led the Texans with 19 points on 7-8 shooting from the field and recorded a double-double with a game-best 12 rebounds.
The Falcons are back in action Saturday, traveling to Commerce, Texas, for a Saturday afternoon game at Texas A&M Commerce. Saturday's game will close out the first half of the Lone Star Conference schedule.
