Jacob Ledoux led the UT Permian Basin offense in scoring for the 10th time in 2018-19 Saturday night, but Texas A&M Kingsville used a large second half comeback to defeat UTPB 80-72 at the UTPB Gym in Odessa.
The Falcons pulled away in the first half of a game where both teams got off to a slow start on offense.
Demarco Jackson scored the team's first field goal 5:35 into the game, but UTPB soon had a 10-9 lead on a 3-pointer from
Adam Rivera at the end of a seven point run at 12:45 of the first half.
UTPB closed out the first half strong, ending the opening 20 minutes on an 11-2 run.
Amanze Njoku-Ibe hit a 3-point play with 2:21 remaining, and Jackson scored with 1:15 remaining in the half to score the final five points of the first and lead 34-22.
Both team's fortunes turned in the second half. Where UTPB held Kingsville to 25 percent from the field overall and 1-11 from 3-point range, the Javelinas went 18-31 in the second half to shoot 58 percent. Meanwhile the Falcons went just 11-29 on offense after halftime with just 1-10 from 3-point range.
Ledoux ended the game with a pair of 3-pointers to lead the Falcons with 18 points on the day.
Isaiah Hammons added 12 points, while
Xavier Ledet had nine points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Darius Mickens had 21 points for the Javelinas off of the bench to lead Kingsville as one of four TAMUK players in double figures. Robert Stevenson added 12 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.
The Falcons close out the first half of Lone Star Conference play this upcoming week, traveling for games against Tarleton State and Texas A&M Commerce.
