Eastern New Mexico used a number of big runs to its advantage Saturday afternoon in taking a 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 win over UT Permian Basin volleyball in Portales, N.M.
The Greyhounds held the Falcons to negative hitting in the first two sets as UTPB was limited to just four and five kills in the first and second sets, respectively.
ENMU turned an 11-9 Falcon lead in the opening set into a 17-11 lead behind eight straight points, and out-scored UTPB 8-4 the remaining 12 points for the 10-point victory.
The Falcons played even with the Greyhounds early in the second set, but an 8-1 ENMU stretch helped Eastern New Mexico to a 15-8 lead and an eventual 25-17 set win.
UTPB hung on with Eastern in set three, scoring three straight points on a block by
Skyler Friel with blocks by Friel and
Haleigh Robinson and Friel and Cady Jones to tie the set at 9-9. But later in the set the Greyhounds broke away, scoring six of seven points for an 18-13 lead before winning the match 25-19.
UT Permian Basin stays on the road after the weekend, traveling to Silver City, N.M. for a Monday night contest at Western New Mexico.
