UT Permian Basin volleyball snapped a two-game losing streak on the road Monday night when the Falcons took down Western New Mexico in straight sets 25-19, 25-21, 26-24.
The Falcons won the first two sets handily, but looked destined for a fourth set when the Mustangs jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the third set.
UTPB fought back behind an 8-1 run to close within a point and tied the set at 18-18 on kills by
Haleigh Robinson and
Marissa Aguilar.
The Falcons went ahead 22-20 on a kill by
Aquincia Strambler and block from Robinson and
Travana Matthews.
Western matched the Falcons the rest of the set point-for-point until UTPB got the final two points of the night, winning on a kill from Aguilar for the 26-24 third set win.
UTPB out-hit Western New Mexico .259 to .230 on the evening, recording 45 kills to 15 errors on the night. The Falcons recorded six aces with seven blocks on the evening.
Strambler led all players in the match with 14 total kills, hitting .565 on the night. Aguilar contributed 11 kills while Matthews hit .375 with eight winners.
Kiera Granado had 24 assists to pace the Falcons, while
Sarah Vasquez had 17 digs to lead all players on the night.
UTPB is back home this weekend, hosting Texas A&M Commerce Friday night at 6 p.m.
