The UT Permian Basin (1-3) women's soccer team wraps up its non-conference schedule this weekend with a game against NAIA opponent Wayland Baptist (3-1-1).
Last week UTPB split a pair of road games. The team opened the week with a 1-0 loss to Lubbock Christian (1-3) in double overtime. The team played a player down after a red card in the first half before Lubbock Christian fired off 43 total shots. They finally broke through in overtime when Gabby Gomez connected on a header off a corner.
UTPB then went to New Mexico and defeated New Mexico Highlands (0-3), 1-0 on a late goal by
Ariel Roybal. The game was a defensive struggle with neither team able to take many shots. UTPB broke through on Roybal's goal with just over eight minutes remaining to break the scoreless tie. NMHU thought they had things tied up moments later but it was waved off on an offsides call.
Raeann Garcia had five saves in the shutout victory.

Wayland Baptist split their two games last week. They opened the week by defeating Howard Payne 1-0. With neither team able to generate much offense, only 13 shots were registered and just six on goal, Wayland used a late goal from Megan Attenborough to propel them to the victory.
Wayland then took on Friends University at home on Saturday. After Wayland took the early lead on an own goal, Friends came back in the second half with a pair of goals, scored just 2:15 apart, to hand Wayland their first loss of the season. Friends made the most of their opportunities registering just two shot in the game but scored on both of them. They take on the University of the Southwest Wednesday evening.
Wayland Baptist is led by Taylor Moore who has three goals on the season and Megan Attenborough who has added a pair of her own.
