Falcons Rebound for Sunday Split at Cameron

UT Permian Basin split a double header with Cameron in a pair of close games. Cameron took the first game 3-2 while UTPB won the second 4-2.

Game one was a pitcher's duel between starters Andrew Loudermilk and Reid Garrett. The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when a Luke Hughes sacrifice fly broke the tie. UTPB took the lead in the top of the fifth. Andrew Donovan walked and came around to score on a double by Cooper Coe. Mitchell Hazlett followed it up with an RBI single of his own to grab the 2-1 lead. Cameron came back to take the lead in the sixth on a pair of bases loaded walks. UTPB would get a runner on in the seventh but it wasn't enough as they went down by a 3-2 final.

Game two was also a pitcher's duel. Starting pitchers Alex Rivera and Andrew Garza would both go into the sixth inning without allowing a run. UTPB struck first after Chris Ortega reached on a bunt single. After moving to second on a stolen base, he came around to score on a Mike Fernandez double. Alex Wixson followed that up with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, pinch hitter Tony Oslovar drove Wixson in with a single of his own to make it 3-0.

Cameron would answer back in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Michael Flohr knocked in a pair of runs with a single to cut the lead to 3-2. Cale Thornton would come in and shut the door and keep the lead at one. Coe would knock in another run with a single in the eighth to make it 4-2. Thornton would finish it off for the 4-2 UTPB victory.

Loudermilk dropped to 0-4 taking the loss in the first game despite only giving up three runs in 5.1 innings. Coe led the UTPB offense with a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored. Garrett picked up his sixth victory for Cameron while Skyler Henderson picked up his third save of the season.

Alex Rivera picked up his second win of the year for UTPB, striking out seven over 5.1 innings. Thornton picked up his first save of the season striking out six over 3.2 innings only allowing two hits. Fernandez and Wixson both had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Fernandez and Skyler Palermo each had a double as well.
