Six Unanswered Runs Put Tigers Ahead of Falcons

Dalton Drury homered in the bottom of the third and UT Permian Basin pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom of the sixth, but Fort Hays State scored three runs in each of the top of the seventh and eighth innings to take a 6-3 win over the Falcons Saturday afternoon at Roden Field in Odessa.

Drury's solo shot line drive over the left field wall put UTPB in the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the third.

Joseph Kelleher drove home Cole Dickie in the bottom of the sixth with a triple into the corner in left field, and later scored on a ground out to second by Drury.

FHSU scored their first on a double by Ryan Grasser in the top of the seventh. A second run came in on a throwing error to first, and Addison Kaasch tied the game on a sac fly by Alex Weiss.

A double by Marcus Altman gave the Tigers a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth, and he scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch.

The Falcons stranded 18 Tiger batters on base in the game, including leaving the bases loaded in four different innings.

Cody Rottinghaus earned the win in relief for Fort Hays State, throwing a scoreless seventh inning.

Alex Rivera threw five scoreless innings for UTPB, allowing six hits and four walks in the start while striking out seven.

The two teams close out the three-game season-opening series Sunday at noon.
