UT Permian Basin women's basketball led early on and kept Thursday night's Lone Star Conference game against Tarleton State, the the TexAnns took the game over after halftime, outscoring UTPB 38-29 for a 65-49 win over the Falcons in Stephenville, Texas.
The Falcons had an early 4-0 lead on back-to-back buckets by Khali Pippins-Tryon and Kayla Bretherton in the opening minute.
UTPB never trailed by more than one possession in the first quarter, and a
Sierra LaGrande 3-pointer for the first points of the second quarter gave UTPB back possession of the lead at 15-13.
Tarleton State started to pull away closer to halftime, ending the first half on a 7-2 run oer the last three-plus minutes for a 26-21 halftime lead.
Katie Webster was perfect from the field and from the free throw line in the second half for the TexAnns, going 4-4 from both to lead TSU with 12 points in the second half.
UTPB ended the night just 2-2 at the line while Tarleton State hit 16-22 at the stripe.
The Falcons ended the game with more offensive rebounds than defensive, grabbing 18 boards off the offensive glass to 14 on defense.
LaGrande led the Falcons in scoring Thursday, hitting four 3-pointers for 14 points. Pippins-Tryon grabbed six rebounds and Jackie Perez led UTPB with five assists.
Webster ended the night with 17 points for Tarleton State while Mackenzie Hailey had a double-double, scoring 15 points with 11 rebounds.
UTPB closes out its 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon, traveling to Commerce, Texas, for a 2 p.m. tip against Texas A&M Commerce.
