Sierra LaGrande set the UT Permian Basin 3-point record in a season with 81Â on a day when she led the Falcons with 19 points as UTPB defeated Texas A&M Commerce 64-61 Saturday afternoon in Commerce, Texas.
UTPB trailed 36-30 at halftime, but turned the score around in the final minutes of the game, scoring the final 11 points over the last 1:44 of the game. Â
The Falcon run started with back-to-back threes by Lagrande to cut a 61-53 Lion lead down to 61-59.
Another 3-pointer by Jackie Perez gave the Falcons for the lead for the last time with 19 seconds remaining, and Kristel Reid made it a three-point game with a pair of free throws at the line with six seconds remaining.
The Falcons forced 24 Commerce turnovers in the game to turning it over just 10 times itself in the contest, good for a 19-7 points-off-turnovers advantage.
LaGrande hit six 3-pointers on the day, accounting for all of her field goals, to lead all players in the game with 19 points. Khali Pippins-Tryon added 11 points and eight rebounds and Perez hit three 3-pointers to add 11 points with three assists.
Artaejah Gay led the Lions with a double-double, scoring 18 points with 10 rebounds.Â
