UT Permian Basin women's basketball out-scored Cameron 37-33 in the second half and was able to pull within five points, but a slow start that saw the Aggies lead 33-17 at halftime hurt the Falcons in a 66-54 loss Saturday afternoon.
Poor shooting chased both teams at different times Saturday; UT Permian Basin hit just 7-28 from the field (25 percent) in the first half, and the Aggies connected on just 7-29 field goals (24.1) in the second half.
A five-point swing in the fourth quarter turned a 49-39 Cameron lead into a five-point advantage after a 3-pointer by
Victoria Lopez and an fastbreak layup by Kayla Bretherton.
Free throws ended up writing the final word in the game, as Cameron hit 15-of-16 from the free throw line over the final 1:28 of play in the game.
Three Falcons scored in double figures, led by Khali Pippins-Tryon with 13 points on 6-9 shooting from the floor. Kristel Reed hit 5-8 shots from the floor for 10 points, and Kayla Brethreton added 10 points and six rebounds in a reserve role.
Parfitt McNair led all players with 21 points, while Jamie Bonnarens and Ava Battese added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
UTPB is back home this week, hosting Angelo State Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
