Falcons Close Road Swing with 73-66 Win at Cameron

It was a wire to wire 73-66 victory for #13 UT Permian Basin on the road over Cameron in a late season Lone Star Conference match-up in Lawton, Okla.

Daeshon Francis had a monster game scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. James McPherson added 15 points knocking down three three-pointers.

Josh Morris and Zeldric King dominated from the tip-off in the first half. Morris scored nine in the first five and a half minutes hitting his first three shots. King scored eight immediately off the bench including his second three-pointer of the season. McPherson knocked down a three to give UTPB an 11- point lead with 7:47 to go in the first half. Cameron struggled from three-point range in the first half missing their first 12 shots but finished the half 4-10.

A Sammy Allen lay-up put UTPB up 36-23 with 1:52 to go in the half, then followed it up with a dunk to push the lead to 14 before Johann Tate hit a three at the buzzer to make it a 38-27 game at the half. Francis was one-point shy of a double-double in the first half.

Cameron came out hot in the second half with a 12-4 run to cut the UTPB lead to just three. Allen and Morris hit lay-ups on back to back possessions before McPherson buried a three-pointer to push the lead back to 10. The teams would trade points back and forth before another McPherson three pushed the lead to 14 with 4:34 to play. Three-pointers by Jordan Lewis, Delano Jones and JV Long in the final two minutes cut the lead to six but Amari Bryant sealed the game with a free-throw with 10 seconds on the clock.

Allen added 12 rebounds with eight points for UTPB. Morris finished with 13 points and six rebounds while King added 12 points off the bench. UTPB dominated in the paint winning the rebound battle 47-27 and scoring 34 points in the paint.

Jones led Cameron with 15 points and Tyler Williams added 11 in the effort.

UTPB returns home for the final two home games on the season when they take on Angelo State on Thursday and then Texas A&M – Kingsville on Saturday in the home finale.
