Alex Rivera came in out of the bullpen and struck out 12 batters over five innings in game two Saturday, but UT Permian Basin baseball suffered a pair of 13-7 and 3-2 losses to close out a weekend series against Southern Nazarene.
Rivera entered at the top of the third in game two of the day trailing 2-0 and proceeded to record strike outs on 12 of 15 outs recorded. He allowed just one unearned run and gave up just a pair of hits and hit two batters in the relief effort. At one point he recorded seven straight outs via the strike out.
The Falcons got their first of the game when Tony Oslovar grounded out to second to score Dalton Drury and cut the Southern Nazarene lead to 2-1 in the third inning.
Trailing 3-1, Drury lined out to the left fielder to score Lance Wasson on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth.
David Gustafson went the distance for Southern Nazarene, striking out 10 and allowing three hits and three walks in the victory.
Earlier in the day, the Crimson Storm put up the first eight runs of the day and scored 11 runs in the first three innings in taking a 12-7 win over UTPB.
Cooper Coe ended the game 1-2 with a team-high four RBI, driving in his first of the day on a fly ball to center field in the second inning before coming up in the third inning with the bases loaded and clearing them with a double into left field.
The Falcons are off for the next week before traveling to Lakewood, Colo. for a series against Colorado Christian.
