UT Permian Basin volleyball picked up a first set win Friday on the road at Cameron, but the Aggies won the next three sets in a 25-23, 20-25, 14-25, 20-25 loss in Lone Star Conference action in Lawton, Okla.
The Falcons (11-11, 6-7) rallied from trailing 15-10 in the first set to score 10 straight points and 12 of 13 to take a 22-16 lead in the first set. UT Permian Basin was able to weather a four-point Cameron run that pulled them within a pair of points, and the Falcons won the set after a pair of kills by
Aquincia Strambler for the final two points of the game and the 25-22 win.
But the rest of the night went much differently for the Falcons in the remaining three sets. After hitting .184 with 17 kills in the first set, UTPB hit .067, .059 and .103 in the next three sets with just 28 total kills.
Cameron (3-21, 1-13) ended the night hitting .233 as a team while the Falcons collectively hit .108 on the night.
Skyler Friel led the Falcons with 12 kills on the day, hitting .310 with just three errors on 29 attempts. Strambler and Matthews each added nine kills in the match.
Kiera Granado paced the Falcons with 22 assists, and
Sarah Vasquez led a trio of Falcons in double digits in digs with a team-best 15.
The Falcons are back in action this weekend at Midwestern State, taking on the Mustangs in Wichita Falls Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
