UT Permian Basin volleyball opened up its 2017 home schedule Tuesday night with a 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 19-25 non-conference loss to Lubbock Christian in Odessa.
The Falcons rallied in the opening set, scoring seven straight to even the first set at 15-15. UTPB kept right with the Lady Chaps, but Lubbock Christian rattled off three straight points at the end of the set for the win.
UTPB dominated the pace to open set two, scoring the first four points and leading 7-1. But LCU scored six straight points to even set two at 17-17, and took a 2-0 lead by scoring the final five points.
The Falcons rallied in set three, scoring six in a row to break a 10-10 tie with
Jordan Williams serving, and scored four of the last five to win the third 25-20.
The two teams traded points back and forth to find UTPB leading 12-10, but Lubbock Christian won the match on the back of a seven point run to go on top 17-12 in the fourth.
Caitlyn Guajardo led the Falcons with 15 kills on the night as one of three players with double digit kills (
Rachel Dixon - 14,
Jordan Williams - 13). Emily Hanaway led all players for LCU with 19 winners on the night. Kierra Granado led all palyers with 46 assists, and
Sarah Vasquez had 19 digs to lead the Falcons.
UTPB starts Lone Star Conference play this weekend, hosting Cameron and Midwestern State on back-to-back days beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
