UT Permian Basin baseball blanked Abilene Christian over the final seven innings and scored a run in each the eighth and ninth innings Monday night, but it wasn't enough to push the Falcons over the Wildcats in a 3-2 loss at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas.
Andrew Donovan,
Chris Ortega and
Noah Cole combined to throw seven scoreless innings from the third inning on for the Falcons.
Down 3-0 in the top of the eighth, Alex Wixson put the Falcons on the scoreboard with an RBI single back up the middle on a 3-2 pitch to drive in
Dalton Drury.Â
Trailing by a pair, Drury singled into left and moved to second on the throw as Randal Toribio scored and
Bailey Giffen advanced to third to put a pair of runners in scoring position with two outs in the top of the ninth, but Abilene Christian took the one-run win by getting an infield pop up to end the game.
UTPB is back at home this weekend in Lone Star Conference action, hosting Texas A&M - Kingsville for four games beginning Friday afternoon.
