UT Permian Basin turned an 8-0 Texas A&M - Kingsville lead into a 9-9 tie by the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Javelinas scored the final five runs of the game in a 14-9 defeat of UTPB Friday afternoon at Roden Field.
Down 8-0 after the top of the first, an Alex Wixson bases-loaded walk and single from
William Bierlein with the bases packed led to a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame.
The Falcons added on four more runs in the bottom of the third, scoring two on a Bierlein two-run triple and a pair of RBI hits from
Randal Toribio and
Jordan Zazulak.
Chris Ortega evened the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run over the wall in left field.
The Javelinas added five more runs over the next three innings to pick up the series victory.
Ortega and Bierlein each drove in three runs on the afternoon for UTPB.
The teams continue action this weekend with a pair of seven inning games Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
