Amari Bryant led all scorers on the afternoon with 22 points as #8 UT Permian Basin men's basketball returned from the holiday break for an 84-64 win over Jarvis Christian Saturday at the UTPB Gym.
Bryant's 22 were a season high and the third time in the last four games the transfer senior has scored in double-figures.
UTPBÂ (10-1) led by as many as 14-point, 26-12, as part of a 10-0 run midway through the first half, but the Bulldogs cut it to a four-point game at halftime, closing out the first half 13-5 to trail the Falcons 34-30.
Bryant added to his three first half 3-pointers with three more in the second half, and helped UTPBÂ pull away after Jarvis Christian took the lead after halftime. An Isaiah Lopez three put Jarvis Christian ahead 37-36, but a Bryant triple gave UTPB back the lead 39-37.
The Falcons pulled away over the final 10 minutes of the game, leading by double-digits over the last 9:56 of action.
Bryant ended the night 6-8 from 3-point range and 7-10 on the day from the field with a pair of free throws.Â
Josh Morris added a double-double, scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds, while Sammy Allen added to his team-leading rebound total with 13 boards on the day.
Daeshon Francis added 13 points and four assists, while Zeldric King was 4-5 from the field with 12 points off the bench.
Sam Auguste led Jarvis Christian with 19 points off the bench and five 3-pointers on the day.
UTPBÂ is back in Lone Star Conference action next week, hosting Cameron Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
