UT Permian Basin women's basketball led after each of the first three quarters Friday afternoon against St. Mary's, but lost the fourth quarter 20-12 in losing 50-46 in a neutral site game in Lubbock, Texas.
Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, each hitting just seven field goals. UTPB was a perfect 6-6 from the line for the 23-21 at the break.
UTPB scored the first four points of the fourth quarter on baskets by Khali Pippins-Tyron and Heather Crittenden to stretch its lead out to 38-30.
Leading 42-32, the Rattlers scored the next 12 points to take a two-point lead and never gave it up over the last three minutes.
Pippins-Tyron was the lone Falcon in double figures, scoring 11 points with five rebounds. Kayla Bretherton and Crittenden each had eight points, and Jackie Perez had a team best seven rebounds.
Arysia Porter led St. Mary's with a double-double, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds.
