UT Permian Basin women's basketball's second half struggles continued Saturday night as UTPB was out-scored 49-37 in a 78-72 loss against South Dakota Mines in Durango, Colo.
The Falcons got points from 11 different players, including seven from Kayla Bretherton, in a first half that saw them lead 21-14 after the first quarter and 35-29 at halftime.
UTPB shot nearly identical from the field in the second half, but South Dakota Mines hit 65 percent of its field goals in the final 20 minutes, improving from its 33% in the first half.
Khali Pippins-Tyron led UTPB with 14 points on the night. Briana Caro added 11 points and five assists off the bench with seven rebounds, and Bretherton ended the night in double figures with 10 points.
Cooper Courtney led South Dakota Mines with 36 points, hitting five 3-pointers on the night.
UTPB is back in action on the road Tuesday night, traveling to Las Cruces, N.M. for a game at New Mexico State.
