Khali Pippins-Tyron scored 32 points in her UT Permian Basin women's basketball debut, but #22 Fort Lewis out-scored the Falcons 48-25 in the second half as UTPB fell in its season-opener 85-67 at Whalen Gymnasium in Durango, Colo.

Pippins-Tyron scored 19 points in the first half, helping UTPB to a four-point, 42-38 halftime advantage.

The Falcons stretched out the lead to double digits coming out of the half on a pair of 3-pointers by Pippins-Tyron and back-to-back layupds by Kayla Bretherton for the 52-39 advantage.

An 11 point run near the end of the third quarter pulled the Skyhawks even with the Falcons, and Fort Lewis took its first lead of the second half on a pair of free throws in its first possession of the fourth quarter.

Fort Lewis ended the game on a 27-6 run in taking the 18-point victory.

Pippins-Tyron led all scorers on the afternoon, hitting 4-6 from 3-point range and 11-23 from the field. Bretherton added 11 points and Briana Caro had nine points off the bench for UTPB.

Vivian Gray paced the Skyhawks with 20 points and 10 rebounds, one of four Fort Lewis players in double figures and one of two with at least 10 rebounds.

UTPB closes play in Durango tomorrow night, tipping off against South Dakota Mines at 6 p.m.
