UT Permian Basin women's basketball came out of the winter break to take a 33-30 lead at halftime against Cameron, but the Aggies out-scored the Falcons 54-29 in the second half of an 84-62 loss in road Lone Star Conference action in Lawton, Okla.
After holding the lead twice in the first quarter, UTPB cut into a six-point Cameron advantage with a 3-pointer from
Briana Caro and three-point play by
Jau'nae Peevy to trail 23-21 just under two minutes into the quarter.Â
A pair of free throws each by Niva Taito and
Jackie Perez put UTPB on top 25-24, and the Falcons out-scored Cameron 8-1, including five straight from Caro, in the final two minutes to lead 33-30 at halftime.
Cameron turned its shooting around in the second half, hitting 18-31 from the field while connecting on 14-16 from the free throw line while limiting the Falcons to 10-31 shooting on field goals in the final 20 minutes.
Caro led the Falcons with 15 points on the night, including four 3-pointers. Perez also added 15 points on 4-7 shooting with a pair beyond the arc off the bench. Nakedra Burke led the Falcons with 10 rebounds.
Savanna James led all players in the game with 23 points for Cameron.
