Jau'nae Peevy carried the Falcons Saturday afternoon with six 3-pointers and a game-high 27 points as UT Permian Basin women's basketball picked up its first Lone Star Conference win of the season in an 82-78 overtime victory at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Falcons had to come back after falling behind by nine points, 59-50, after Midwestern State scored the first six points of the fourth quarter.Â
Sierra LaGrande hit a basket and 3-pointer on consecutive possessions, and
Victoria Lopez hit a pair of layups as the Falcons scored on four straight possessions to trail 62-60 with 5:08 to play in regulation.
Niva Taito tied the game for UTPB in the final minute, hitting a 3-pointer while down three to even the game at 67-67 with 19 seconds remaining.
Both teams led early on in overtime, but UTPBÂ started to pull away as part of an 8-0 run that featured eight points by Peevy capped with a three to lead 77-71 with a minute to play.
Lopez wrapped up the win at the line, hitting a pair while trailing by two with eight seconds remaining for the 82-78 win.
Peevy shot 6-9 from 3-point range to hit 8-15 on the afternoon. Taito added nine points on 4-7 shooting while
Jackie Perez also added nine points on the afternoon. LaGrande,
Stephanie Verduzco and Lopez all scored eight points.
