Niva Taito hit 6-12 from 3-point range and the Falcons had their best shooting night of the season as a team as UT Permian Basin women's basketball hit a season-high in scoring with a 97-61 win over Western New Mexico Thursday night in Silver City, N.M.
Taito hit five 3-pointers in the first half, scoring 15 points and helping the Falcons to a 46-31 halftime lead.
Four others joined her in double figures on the night, as
Briana Caro went 5-8 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers to add 15 points.
Sierra LaGrande also went off from beyond the arc, hitting 5-6 from downtown to add 15 points off of the bench.
Jackie Perez added 10 points on the night with a game-high seven assists, and
Heather Crittenden was a rebound short of a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Falcons held Western New Mexico to just 33.9 percent hooting on the night while UTPB hit 32-63 on the night, hitting 50.8 percent of its attempts for their best collective effort of the season.
UTPB is back in action Saturday afternoon, taking on Eastern New Mexico at 3 p.m. in Portales, N.M.
