UT Permian Basin dropped its first two of the weekend in its final three-game set of the season, falling at #12 Lubbock Christian 4-3 and 14-2 Friday night at Hays Field in Lubbock.
Lubbock Christian got the scoring going with a three-run bottom of the third in the opener, getting its first two on a pair of doubles.
The Chaps added a run in the fourth, scoring all of its runs in game one in order.
UTPB came back to make a game of it in the top of the sixth when
David Fetkenher hit a single through the right side of the infield to drive in
Tyler Houlihan.
RBI base hits by
Mike Fernandez and
Kevin Barnes scored
Jack Miller and Fetkenher to pull within one before the sixth ended, but the Falcons left the bases loaded at the end of the inning.
UTPB was able to put the tying run on base in the seventh, but left pinch runner
Chase Dillon stranded at second as LCU wrapped up the one-run win.
UTPB out-hit Lubbock Christian 11-8, led by
Doug Clapperton, Miller, Fetkenher and Barnes with a pair of hits each.
The Falcons scored first in game two when Fetkenher drove home
Ryan Souza in the first, but Lubbock grabbed a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning to go back ahead.
LCU scored four more over the next two innings before Souza hit a sacrifice fly to center for the team'ssecond run of the game.
The Chaps closed out the night with eight combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
UTPB looks to go out on a winning note Saturday afternoon when the teams end the regular season at 2 p.m.
