Falcons Ride Runs to 10-4 and 12-8 Wins at UAFS

UT Permian Basin Baseball started off its three-game road series at UA Fort Smith with the first 10 runs of the game Friday afternoon, taking the opener 10-4, and came back to score the final nine runs of the afternoon in taking game two 12-8.

UTPB took advantage of early inning walks, scoring six runs in the second, third and fourth innings as UAFS walked five batters to start the three combined innings.

Alex Fernandez got the scoring going in the second on a single into center. Doug Clapperton added another run when he reached on a fielder's choice to score a run from third.

UTPB got another pair in the third on a pair of sac flies by Jack Miller and David Fetkenher.

Tyler Houlihan scored another two in the fourth on a base hit back up the middle.

Ryan Souza and Houlihan each had two-run singles in the fifth to increase the lead out to 10-0.

UA Fort Smith did all of its damage in the bottom half of the inning, getting four unearned runs on three RBI hits.

Houlihan paced UTPB in game one, driving in four runs with three hits.

Donald Wanner continued his strong start on the mound for the Falcons, picking up his fourth win of the season by giving up nine hits with a walk with all four runs charged as unearned.

Trailing 8-3 in game two, Jordan Zazulak got the comeback started in the top of the seventh with a two-run double through the left side of the field to pull UTPB within three.

The Falcons tied the game after Clapperton drove in one and Houlihan evened the game at 8-8 with a two-run infield bases-loaded single to third base.

Miller gave UTPB the lead for good with a ground ball single into left, and Fetkenher made it 11-8 with a two-run play into left.

Houlihan added to his RBI count for the day, driving in his seventh run of the afternoon on a bunt single for the 12-8 win.

Zazulak, Fetkenher and Houlihan each plated three runs in game two with Miller tallying three hits in the game.

Fabian Depablos earned his first decision in picking up the win, tossing a perfect seventh inning. John Rodriguez got his first save of the season in striking out one and giving up a pair of hits in shutting Fort Smith down in the eighth and ninth innings.

UTPB looks to stretch its win streak out to six games with its second series sweep Saturday afternoon in Fort Smith, Ark.
