UT Permian Basin Baseball couldn't have won its two games Friday afternoon any differently as the Falcons shut out Rogers State 3-0 in the opener before scoring eight of its nine runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 9-8 walkoff win at Roden Field in Odessa.
Donald Wanner went the distance on the mound for the Falcons in game one, earning his third win of the seasons by throwing seven shutout innings. He struck out six, giving up five hits and a pair of walks.
Ryan Souza srove in two of the team's three runs on a pair of singles in the second and the fourth, while
Doug Clapperton hit in the second run of the game earlier in the fourth on an outfield base hit to left.
Trailing 8-1 in the ninth inning in game two, UTPB kept putting runners on base and brought them in.
Jordan Zazulak,
Mike Fernandez and Clapperon all had run scoring doubles, Zazulak and Clapperton each driving in a pair, and
Tyler Houlihan singled up the middle with the bases loaded to score Jordan Pritchard. Clapperton moved to third on the play and came in when the ball was bobbled by the left fielder for the win.
Brooks Eady was the pitcher of record for the Falcons, winning his first decision of the season after walking a pair in throwing the final out of the top of the ninth.
Houlihan and
Alex Fernandez each had three hits in game two to lead the offense, while Clapperton scored twice as eight different Falcons had a run.
