UT-Permian Basin rode a pair of back-to-back home runs in game one to a 2-1 lead, but St. Edward's used the longball seven times to its advantage on the afternoon in scoring a pair of 7-2 and 12-3 wins over UTPB Friday afternoon at Roden Field.
Trailing 1-0 in game one, the Falcons got solo shot home runs from
Jordan Zazulak to left center and
Mike Fernandez over the big wall in straightaway center field to help the Falcons take their first lead of the game 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
But the lead was short-lived as St. Edward's tied the game on its first homer of the game by Wesley Harris. The Hilltoppers then went ahead for good on a three-run blast by Dylan Watts before adding two more runs in the sixth.
St. Edward's went yard five different times in game two, including hitting back-to-back-to-back jacks in the top of the ninth in a 12-3 defeat of UTPB.
The Falcons answered a three-run top of the first by grabbing a run back when
Jack Miller drove in
Doug Clapperton with a single back up the middle into center.
UTPB scored twice more in the fourth on RBI hits by
David Fetkenher and
Chase Dillon.
The teams close out the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Roden Field.
