UTPB women's basketball put up a fantastic third quarter, but weren't able to contain St. Edward's in the final 10 minutes of a 65-57 loss on the road Thursday night in Austin, Texas.
Trailing 33-23 at halftime, the Falcons scored nine straight points to turn a 10-point St. Edward's advantage into a one point game. The Falcons score the last seven points off of turnovers and were behind 37-36 after a layup by
Kayla White with 3:36 to play in the third quarter.
UTPB scored 11 of the final 13 points of the quarter, getting 3-pointers y
Jau'nae Peevy and the final eight points, six from downtown, by
Niniva Taito in the last minute, to hold a 47-43 lead after 30 minutes.
St. Edward's responded in the fourth quarter by out-scoring the Falcons 22-10 and taking the lead over the final 6:12 of regulation.
Taito led the Falcons with 18 points and seven rebounds, hitting 4-8 from 3-point range on the night.Â
Sierra LaGrande added 13 points off of the bench, making 5-10 field goal chances on the day and three 3-point attempts.
Khiani Clark led all players with 21 points for St. Edward's as one of three Hilltoppers in double figures.
