Falcons Wrap Up Regular Season with 89-81 Win at Oklahoma Christian

UT-Permian Basin men's basketball closed out it's 2015-16 regular season Saturday afternoon with an 85-81 road win at Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City, Okla.

UTPB broke away in the first half from what had primarily been a one possession game when Gary Akbar hit a pair at the free throw line and Johnnie Lacy scored five points on a pair of field goals to take a 33-25 lead with 7:15 remaining in the half.

That allowed the Falcons to stay in the lead at halftime despite Oklahoma Christian scoring the final five points of the second half, heading to the locker rooms with a 38-35 advantage.

UTPB gave up the lead just once in the second half when Daniel Eibel hit a three at 15:02 that put the Eagles on top 51-50.

UTPB responded by hitting three straight 3-pointer attempts as Josh Williams and Sam Stirgus connected from deep on back-to-back possessions, and Williams added another from deep following an OCU basket to help put the Falcons up by six. UT-Permian Basin continued the run with the next seven points, capped by a three from Stirgus for a 13-point 66-53 advantage.

Oklahoma Christian closed within five points three different times over the final 10 minutes, but never had a chance to take the lead as UTPB responded with big shots on offense each time.

Lacy led the Falcons with 26 points on a hot shooting night. The junior guard connected on 6-9 from beyond the arc while shooting 8-12 overall from the floor. He also paced the Falcons with four assists.

Williams added 14 points off of the bench, hitting 4-5 from the 3-point line on the day.

Stirgus added 4-7 shooting from deep to score 12 points as UTPB shot 15-29 collectively as a team, including 11-17 in the second half behind the arc.
